Note to Sandy Florence: Thursday, 10 January 1999
O.K. I found a disk and copied the material I prepared for class on it. So here it is, straight, unvarnished, and unedited.
I learned much from the class. First off, I learned that if assigned to sit down and write right now, it is possible to do so. I was amazed at how easily I spewed forth verbiage.
Secondly, I learned how repressed I am at expressing emotions of any sort. This is very difficult for me. I was really impressed by how different what I wrote was from what women write. I have learned over the years that women are better listeners, more sensitive, etc. What surprised me was how sharply these characteristics showed when we wrote as you instructed.
Finally, I discovered that I can write something besides science. The deeper question is do I really want to? I don't know the answer, but thanks for giving me the encouragement to know that I can write and now have to face the further issue.
